Edge Caching

By deploying servers around the world, it means that you have the option of serving both static and dynamic elements of your website closer to your visitors. You have full control over this and also have the option of completely disabling this if required.

Global Edge Caching

We automatically cache static content at our edge, ensuring rapid delivery of Images, JavaScript and CSS files to all your visitors around the world and you can control how long we store this content.

If you've updated your website and want to ensure all users are seeing the latest content before the cache expires, you can also run an instant Cache Purge. The more content you cache, the faster your website will load.

Dynamic Cache

Our Dynamic Cache provides the ability to cache any resource at our edge by using public Cache-Control and Expires headers. Once enabled, you can start storing content in this cache by configuring your application to emit those headers. Any responses that contain a cookie will not be cached.

This gives you full page dynamic content caching ensuring rapid TTFB times for all resources regardless of visitor location. Advanced users can check the output of the X-CDN-Cache-Status header to see whether a resource was cached.

Custom Cache Settings

Customise a number of Edge Caching options best for your site.

  • Image Cache - Set how long we should store images at our edge.
  • CSS Cache - Set how long we should store stylesheets and fonts at our edge.
  • JavaScript Cache - Set how long we should store JavaScript files at our edge.

Purge Cache

At any time you can clear all cached files which will force all edge servers to fetch fresh copies from your site. Purging the cache may temporarily degrade performance for your website.

Why would I need to Purge?

If you have made changes to your site and you wanted to see the changes reflected immediately then you may need to purge the cache. However, our CDN will fetch your sites for you every hour to make sure the freshest content is served.

Security Headers

Manage Security Headers in order to control how your CDN can be accessed. These include X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy, Strict-Transport-Security, X-XSS-Protection & Content-Security-Policy.

  • X-Frame-Options - Used to indicate whether or not a browser should be allowed to render a page in a <frame>, <iframe>, <embed> or <object>.
  • X-Content-Type-Options - Is used by the server to indicate that the MIME types advertised in the Content-Type headers should not be changed and be followed.
  • Referrer-Policy - This controls how much referrer information (sent via the Referer header) should be included with requests.
  • Strict-Transport-Security - This response header lets a web site tell browsers that it should only be accessed using HTTPS, instead of using HTTP.
  • X-XSS-Protection - This response header is a feature of Internet Explorer, Chrome and Safari that stops pages from loading when they detect reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks.
  • Content-Security-Policy - This response header allows web site administrators to control resources the user agent is allowed to load for a given page.

Development Mode

You can temporarily disable all caching to allow you to complete development tasks on the website without worrying about cached data. Caching is then automatically re-enabled after a period of 3 hours.

Web Optimisation

Use our Web Optimisation suite to automatically apply web performance best practices to optimise your website and improve your page speed. All of our optimisation tools are flagged by a "Risk" factor - Low Risk, Medium Risk and High Risk. If you are unsure which tools to enable we offer a One-click Optimisation which applies the most popular optimisation filters that should help improve page loading times without risking website functionality. The Web Optimisation Suite is only available on our Turbo and Business plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

CDN (Content Distribution Network) FAQs

Find answers to the frequently asked questions about our CDN.

The speed of your website can impact your bottom line: when page load time increases from 1 second to 5 seconds, the probability of a user abandoning your page rises by 90% (Google). People are impatient and unwilling to wait for a slow web page. Latency costs you money, so that’s where a CDN and Website Acceleration Suite can help.

The free CDN reduces latency through its edge caching and optimises your website content for snappy, responsive page loads. This means better search engine rankings, higher conversion rates, and lower data costs.

For any company that has an international presence – or a new business that would like an international presence – a CDN is important. It means that your website will load fast anywhere in the world.

Fast sites lead to more sales and better search performance. Whether you want to make money from home, or already run a successful online business, you need a CDN.

A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is all about making a website load faster for all users, wherever they are in the world.

This is done by storing (caching) copies of your website on servers at the network edge. For example, if your website is hosted at a UK data centre, there might be a delay if you try to access that site from the USA. So, a copy of your website is stored on a server closer to the user, called a Point of Presence (POP).

Multiple copies of your site’s data are stored at different POPs throughout the world, so your site will load faster in remote places. Your users will navigate your site more efficiently, wherever they are.

While it’s good for users, the SIRSTEVEHQ CDN has other advantages. Search engines love fast-loading sites so there’s an SEO benefit to having a CDN too.

You might think CDN may not be important to you if you’re a local ‘bricks and mortar’ business that only serves your nearby community. That’s understandable, but having a fast site gives you SEO advantages, even locally. So even if you don’t have an international market, it’s still worth activating your free CDN and making use of its website speed acceleration.

We say: since ours is free, use it all the time! There’s no disadvantage to using it, and unlike some providers, the SIRSTEVEHQ CDN doesn’t charge you for the bandwidth you use.

The only time you might want to turn off any of the Website Acceleration Suite optimisations are if they interfere with any complex functions on your site. Our friendly support team is here to help if you have any difficulties.

The SIRSTEVEHQ CDN is quick and easy to use, with just a few clicks within our SIRSTEVEHQ CP.

Our CDN is used to cache static content. By default, your website files will be cached for 60 minutes before being automatically purged.

Yes, the SIRSTEVEHQ CDN performs cache warming to ensure cached pages are served as frequently as possible. If another user requests the same web page and uses the same CDN node they’ll be served the ‘warmed’ cache generated by the first user. This ensures that they get a cache HIT on their first visit, meaning that the website will load faster.

OCSP stapling is cutting-edge technology which optimises website performance and safeguards user privacy. With OCSP stapling, SSL certificates receive a signed OCSP response as part of the initial SSL/TLS handshake. This reduces the time required to check the revocation status of SSL certificates. OCSP is implemented automatically with SIRSTEVEHQ CDN, meaning that SSL on SIRSTEVEHQ is now even faster.

We currently utilise an exclusive number of very well connected datacentres in Northern America and across Europe - These exclusive POPs are usually used by transit providers and hence provide the very best latency using the smallest number of POPs. We essentially pay the premium to place hardware directly in "carrier hotels" and neutral datacentres that all traffic from a region will traverse through.
No. Due to our highly configurable CDN and Web Optimisation suite you have full control to enable/disable those features you want to use and take advantage of. The more features you enable, the faster your sites will be!
No. As per all of our packages, we offer unlimited bandwidth when both utilising our CDN or with this turned off. You will not receive any unexpected traffic bills.
