To migrate your website successfully, we may need access to your existing hosting account and, depending on your website, your website administration panel. The exact information required depends on the type of website you are migrating and your current hosting provider.
Providing complete and accurate information helps us complete the migration more efficiently and reduces the likelihood of delays.
What Information May Be Required?
Depending on your website and hosting environment, we may request one or more of the following:
Hosting Control Panel Access
If your current hosting provider uses a control panel, we may request access to it, such as:
- cPanel
- Plesk
- DirectAdmin
- Another supported hosting control panel
Control panel access may allow us to access your website files, databases, email accounts, and other hosting settings required for the migration.
FTP or SFTP Credentials
If control panel access is unavailable or not required, we may request FTP or SFTP credentials, including:
- FTP or SFTP hostname
- FTP or SFTP username
- FTP or SFTP password
- Port number, if applicable
These credentials allow us to access and transfer your website files.
SSH Access
For larger or more complex websites, SSH access may make the migration process more efficient.
If SSH access is available, we may request:
- SSH hostname
- Username
- Password or SSH key
- Port number
SSH credentials are only required when they are necessary for the migration.
Website Administrator Login
For websites built with content management systems such as WordPress, we may also require administrator access.
For example:
- WordPress Administrator username
- WordPress Administrator password
Administrator access may be required to verify your website after migration or make configuration changes where necessary.
Database Information
If your website requires direct database access, we may request:
- Database name
- Database username
- Database password
- Database hostname, if applicable
Do You Need My Domain Registrar Login?
Usually, no.
If you prefer to update your domain's nameservers or DNS records yourself, we do not need access to your domain registrar account.
If you would like assistance with updating your DNS settings, we can guide you through the required changes. Where appropriate, we may request temporary access if your registrar supports a secure method for providing it.
Should I Share My Passwords Securely?
Yes.
For your security, please provide sensitive login credentials only through a secure support ticket in your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
Avoid sending passwords or other sensitive account information through public messages, social media, or other unsecured communication channels.
If possible, use temporary credentials for the migration and change or revoke them after the migration has been completed.
Should I Create a Backup Before Migration?
Yes.
Although we take reasonable precautions during the migration process, we strongly recommend creating a complete backup of your website before the migration begins.
A recent backup provides an additional layer of protection and gives you a restore point if anything unexpected occurs during the migration.
What Happens After I Submit My Information?
Once we receive your migration request and the required information, our Support Team will:
- Review your website and migration requirements
- Verify the information provided
- Begin the migration process
- Perform basic checks after the migration
- Notify you when the migration is ready for your review
If we require additional information or access, we will contact you through your support ticket.
