By default, most domain names registered with SIRSTEVEHQ are protected with Domain Lock (also known as Registrar Lock). This security feature helps prevent unauthorized domain transfers by ensuring that no one can transfer your domain to another registrar without your approval.
If you plan to transfer your domain to another registrar, you will first need to unlock it.
Why is my domain locked?
Domain locking is enabled to protect your domain against:
- Unauthorized transfer requests.
- Domain hijacking.
- Accidental transfers.
- Fraudulent changes made by unauthorized users.
Keeping your domain locked is considered a security best practice and is recommended whenever you are not transferring your domain.
How do I unlock my domain?
You can unlock your domain directly from your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
Step 1: Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
Step 2: Navigate to Domains and select the domain you want to manage.
Step 3: Open the Domain Management section.
Step 4: Locate the Registrar Lock or Domain Lock option.
Step 5: Disable the lock by switching it to Unlocked.
Step 6: Save your changes.
Once the domain has been unlocked, it will be eligible for transfer (provided all transfer requirements are met).
Before unlocking your domain
Before initiating a transfer, make sure that:
- The domain is more than 60 days old (ICANN policy for most generic domain extensions).
- The domain has not been transferred within the last 60 days (where applicable).
- Your domain registration has not expired.
- Your registrant email address is correct and accessible.
- You have obtained your EPP/Auth Code from your Client Area.
- Domain Privacy (if enabled) will not prevent you from receiving transfer-related emails.
After unlocking your domain
Unlocking your domain does not automatically transfer it.
You will still need to:
- Request your EPP/Auth Code.
- Place the transfer order with your new registrar.
- Approve the transfer confirmation email (if required).
- Wait for the transfer process to complete.
Is it safe to leave my domain unlocked?
No. If you are not actively transferring your domain, we strongly recommend keeping it locked.
An unlocked domain is more vulnerable to unauthorized transfer attempts. Once your transfer has been completed—or if you decide not to proceed—you should lock your domain again to maintain maximum security.
