What is an EPP/Auth Code?

An EPP Code (Extensible Provisioning Protocol Code), also known as an Authorization Code, Auth Code, or Transfer Key, is a unique security code assigned to your domain name. It acts like a password for your domain and is used to authorize the transfer of your domain from one registrar to another.

The purpose of the EPP/Auth Code is to protect your domain from unauthorized transfers. Without this code, another registrar cannot initiate a transfer for most generic domain extensions such as .com, .net, .org, .info, and many others.

Why Do I Need an EPP/Auth Code?

You will need an EPP/Auth Code if you want to:

  • Transfer your domain from SIRSTEVEHQ to another domain registrar.
  • Prove that you are the legitimate owner or administrator of the domain.
  • Authorize the receiving registrar to begin the transfer process.

This security measure helps prevent domain hijacking and unauthorized ownership changes.

How Do I Get My EPP/Auth Code?

If your domain is registered with SIRSTEVEHQ, you can usually obtain your EPP/Auth Code by:

  • Logging in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
  • Going to Domains and selecting the domain you wish to transfer.
  • Locating the EPP/Auth Code or Transfer Code option.
  • Requesting or copying the code.

For security purposes, some domain extensions may require our support team to verify your identity before the code is issued.

Important Things to Know

  • Your domain must generally be unlocked before an EPP/Auth Code can be used.
  • Many generic domain extensions cannot be transferred within the first 60 days after registration or a previous transfer, in accordance with ICANN policies.
  • The EPP/Auth Code is confidential. Do not share it with anyone unless you intend to transfer your domain.
  • Some country-code domains (ccTLDs), such as .ng, may use different transfer procedures and may not require an EPP/Auth Code, depending on the registry's policies.

Does Every Domain Use an EPP/Auth Code?

No. While most generic top-level domains (gTLDs) such as .com, .net, and .org use EPP/Auth Codes, some country-code domain extensions have different transfer requirements. If you're unsure whether your domain requires one, our support team can advise you.

Need Help?

If you're unable to locate your EPP/Auth Code or have questions about transferring your domain, simply submit a Support Ticket through your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area. Our team will verify your request and assist you throughout the transfer process.
