At SIRSTEVEHQ, you are free to transfer your domain name to another registrar at any time, provided your domain is eligible for transfer. We believe that you should always have full control over your domain name, and we aim to make the transfer process as straightforward as possible.
A domain transfer simply means moving the management of your domain name from SIRSTEVEHQ to another accredited domain registrar. Your website and email services will not automatically move with the domain—you'll need to migrate your hosting and email separately if required.
Before You Start
Before initiating a transfer, ensure that:
- Your domain is active and not expired.
- The domain has been registered or last transferred more than 60 days ago (this applies to many generic domain extensions such as .com, .net, and .org).
- Your administrative contact email address is up to date, as transfer confirmation emails are usually sent there.
- Your domain is not locked due to fraud prevention, legal disputes, or registry restrictions.
How to Transfer Your Domain
Follow these simple steps:
- Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
- Navigate to Domains and select the domain you wish to transfer.
- Disable the Registrar Lock (Domain Lock) if it is enabled.
- Request or copy your EPP/Auth Code (Authorization Code) for eligible domain extensions.
- Provide the EPP/Auth Code to your new domain registrar when starting the transfer.
- Approve any confirmation emails sent by the gaining registrar or registry.
- Wait for the transfer to complete. Most domain transfers are completed within 5 to 7 days, although some extensions may complete sooner.
Important Things to Know
- Your website will continue working during the transfer as long as your DNS settings remain unchanged.
- Domain transfers generally do not affect your hosting account or website files.
- If your website is hosted with SIRSTEVEHQ and you only transfer the domain registration, your hosting service can continue to operate normally by pointing the domain to our servers.
- Some country-code domains (ccTLDs), such as .ng domains, may have different transfer procedures depending on the registry's policies.
Will I Be Charged?
Most registrars charge a transfer fee, which is determined by the new registrar—not SIRSTEVEHQ. For many generic domain extensions, this fee typically includes a one-year extension of your domain registration.
