My Domain Name Has Expired. What Should I Do?

If your domain name has expired, don't panic. In many cases, it may still be possible to renew or restore it, depending on the domain extension and how long it has been since the expiry date.

When a domain expires, it may no longer resolve on the internet. This means your website, business email, and any other services connected to the domain may become unavailable until the domain is successfully renewed.

How to Check the Status of Your Expired Domain

Step 1 - Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.

Step 2 - Navigate to Domains.

Step 3 - Select the expired domain to view its current status.

Step 4 - Check if there is an outstanding renewal invoice.

Step 5 - If a renewal invoice is available, complete the payment as soon as possible.

After payment has been confirmed, your domain renewal will be processed according to the policies of the domain registry.

Depending on the domain extension, an expired domain may pass through several stages:

  • Grace Period - During this period, the domain can usually be renewed at the standard renewal price.
  • Redemption Period - If the Grace Period has ended, the domain may enter a Redemption Period. During this stage, the domain can often still be restored, but additional redemption or restoration fees may apply.
  • Pending Delete - Once the Redemption Period has ended, the domain enters the Pending Delete stage. At this point, the domain cannot be renewed or restored and will eventually be released for public registration.
  • Available for Registration - If the domain is not renewed or restored before deletion, it may become available for anyone to register. SIRSTEVEHQ cannot guarantee that you will be able to recover a domain once it has been released.

The availability of these stages and their duration depend on the domain extension and the policies of the registry managing the domain.

If your domain has already expired, we strongly recommend renewing it immediately to maximise the chances of recovery and avoid additional fees or permanent loss of the domain.

If you are unsure whether your domain can still be renewed or restored, or if you have already paid your renewal invoice but the domain remains expired, please submit a Support Ticket. Our Support Team will review your domain status and advise you on the available recovery options.

To help prevent future expirations, ensure your registered email address is always up to date so you receive renewal reminders, and pay your renewal invoices before their due dates. Renewing your domain early is the best way to avoid downtime and the risk of losing ownership of your domain name.
