The Domain Redemption Period is a recovery period that begins after a domain name has expired and the standard renewal (Grace) period has ended. During this stage, the domain is no longer active, and your website, email services, and any other services associated with the domain will typically remain unavailable.
Although the domain has expired, it has not yet been permanently deleted. In many cases, the original owner still has one final opportunity to recover it before it is released to the public.
During the Redemption Period
- Your domain cannot be used to host a website or send and receive emails.
- The domain is no longer available for normal renewal.
- A domain restoration request must be submitted to recover the domain.
- An additional redemption or restoration fee is usually charged by the domain registry, in addition to the standard domain renewal fee.
- Recovery is subject to the policies of the domain registry and is not guaranteed for all domain extensions.
If your domain is in the Redemption Period, you should act immediately to maximise the chances of recovering it.
How to Request a Domain Restoration
Step 1 - Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
Step 2 - Navigate to Domains and check the status of your domain.
Step 3 - Submit a Support Ticket requesting that your domain be restored from the Redemption Period.
Step 4 - Our Support Team will confirm whether the domain is eligible for restoration and advise you of any applicable restoration and renewal fees.
Step 5 - Once the required payment has been received and the registry approves the request, the restoration process will begin.
Please note that restoration times vary depending on the domain extension and the registry managing the domain. Some restorations may take a few hours, while others may take several business days.
If a domain is not restored during the Redemption Period, it will usually move to the Pending Delete stage. Once a domain enters Pending Delete, it can no longer be restored or renewed. After the Pending Delete period ends, the domain is released by the registry and becomes available for anyone to register.
Because registry rules differ, the availability of a Redemption Period, its duration, and the applicable restoration fees vary between domain extensions.
If you believe your domain has entered the Redemption Period, we strongly recommend contacting our Support Team as soon as possible. Delaying your request may result in the permanent loss of your domain name if it progresses to the next stage of the domain lifecycle.
