What Is WHOIS Information and How Can I View or Update It?

WHOIS is a public directory that contains registration information about a domain name. Depending on the domain extension and registry policies, WHOIS may display details such as the domain's registration date, expiry date, registrar, nameservers, and, in some cases, the registrant's contact information.

Due to privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and registry-specific policies, many domain registries no longer display the domain owner's personal information publicly. Instead, some WHOIS records may show limited information or indicate that the registrant's details are protected.

A typical WHOIS record may include:

  • Domain name.
  • Domain status.
  • Registration date.
  • Expiry date.
  • Last updated date.
  • Registrar.
  • Nameservers.
  • DNSSEC status.
  • Registrant information (where permitted by the registry).
  • Administrative and technical contact information (where applicable).

You can perform a WHOIS lookup on SIRSTEVEHQ to check the publicly available information for a domain name. This is useful for verifying domain ownership status, checking domain expiry dates, confirming the registrar, or determining whether a domain name is available for registration.

If your domain is registered with SIRSTEVEHQ, you can manage your domain through your Client Area.

How to Update Your Domain Information

Step 1 - Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.

Step 2 - Navigate to Domains.

Step 3 - Select the domain you wish to manage.

Step 4 - Depending on the domain extension and registry rules, you may be able to update your domain contact information directly from your Client Area.

Please note that some domain extensions require manual verification or additional documentation before ownership details can be changed.

Please also note that updating your Client Area account information does not always update the WHOIS information for your domain. Domain contact information and Client Area account information may be managed separately depending on the domain registry.

For security and compliance reasons, some domain extensions restrict which WHOIS information can be modified after registration. If you are unable to update your domain contact information or have questions regarding your WHOIS record, please submit a Support Ticket. Our Support Team will review your request and advise you of the available options.

If you are purchasing a domain name, we recommend providing accurate and up-to-date contact information during registration. This helps ensure you receive important notifications regarding domain renewals, verification requests, transfer approvals, and other registry-related communications.

If you have any questions about your domain's WHOIS information or believe your WHOIS record contains incorrect information, our Support Team is available to assist you.
