A Domain Ownership Transfer (also known as a Registrant Change) allows you to transfer ownership of a domain name from one individual or organisation to another. This is different from a Domain Transfer, which moves a domain from one registrar to another while keeping the same owner.
You may wish to transfer ownership if:
- You have sold your domain name.
- You are transferring the domain to another individual or business.
- Your company has changed ownership.
- The domain was registered under the wrong person's name.
- You need to transfer ownership between two separate SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area accounts.
For security reasons, domain ownership transfers cannot always be completed automatically. The process depends on the domain extension and the policies of the domain registry.
How to Request a Domain Ownership Transfer
Step 1 - Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
Step 2 - Submit a Support Ticket requesting a change of domain ownership.
Step 3 - Include the following information:
- The domain name.
- The current account owner's details.
- The new owner's full name or company name.
- The new owner's email address.
- Any additional information requested by our Support Team.
Step 4 - Our team will review your request and advise you of the next steps.
For security purposes, both the current owner and the new owner may be required to verify their identities or confirm the transfer before ownership can be changed.
Depending on the domain extension, additional documentation may also be required, such as:
- A government-issued photo ID.
- A signed transfer or ownership authorisation form.
- Business registration documents (for company-owned domains).
- Other documents requested by the domain registry.
Please note that some domain registries have strict rules regarding ownership changes. Certain domain extensions may require additional verification, while others may not allow ownership changes after registration without completing a formal transfer process.
If the domain is being transferred to another SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area account, both accounts must be active, and the new owner may be required to create a Client Area account before the transfer can be completed.
A change of domain ownership does not automatically transfer your hosting account, website files, email accounts, databases, SSL certificates, or other hosting services. If you also wish to transfer these services, please mention this in your Support Ticket so our team can advise you on the available options.
For your protection, SIRSTEVEHQ reserves the right to decline or delay a domain ownership transfer if we are unable to verify ownership, detect conflicting ownership claims, or identify any suspicious or fraudulent activity.
If you have questions about transferring ownership of your domain, please submit a Support Ticket, and our Support Team will guide you through the process based on your specific domain extension and circumstances.
