A Domain Lock, also known as Registrar Lock or Transfer Lock, is a security feature that helps protect your domain name from unauthorised transfers. When a domain is locked, it cannot be transferred to another registrar unless the lock is first removed.
This security measure helps prevent domain theft, fraudulent transfer requests, and unauthorised changes to your domain registration.
A locked domain does not affect the normal operation of your website or email services. You can still:
- Access your website.
- Send and receive emails.
- Renew your domain.
- Update DNS records.
- Change nameservers.
- Manage your domain through your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
The domain lock only prevents the domain from being transferred to another registrar without your authorisation.
You may need to unlock your domain if you intend to:
- Transfer your domain to another registrar.
- Complete a registrar-to-registrar domain transfer.
- Perform certain registry operations that require the domain to be unlocked.
How to Manage Your Domain Lock
Step 1 - Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area.
Step 2 - Navigate to Domains.
Step 3 - Select the domain you wish to manage.
Step 4 - Open the Registrar Lock or Domain Lock settings (if available for your domain extension).
Step 5 - Enable or disable the lock as required.
Step 6 - Save your changes.
Please note that not all domain extensions support Registrar Lock. The availability of this feature depends on the policies of the domain registry responsible for managing the domain.
Why Can't I Unlock My Domain?
If you are unable to unlock your domain, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- The domain extension does not support Registrar Lock.
- The domain was registered or transferred within the last 60 days, making it temporarily ineligible for transfer under registry rules.
- The domain is subject to a registry restriction or legal hold.
- Additional verification is required before the lock can be removed.
For security reasons, SIRSTEVEHQ may verify your identity before processing requests related to domain security settings.
If you cannot find the Registrar Lock option in your Client Area or experience any issues unlocking your domain, please submit a Support Ticket. Our Support Team will verify your account, review your domain's status, and assist you with the unlocking process if your domain is eligible.
