What Happens If My Website Goes Down?

If your website becomes unavailable, don't panic. Website downtime can occur for a variety of reasons, ranging from temporary network issues to website configuration problems. The first step is to identify the cause before attempting any changes.

In many cases, website downtime can be resolved quickly once the underlying issue has been identified.

Common Reasons Why a Website Goes Down

  • Your hosting service has been suspended.
  • Your hosting service has expired.
  • Your domain name has expired.
  • Your domain's DNS settings or nameservers have been changed.
  • DNS propagation is still in progress.
  • Your website files have been deleted or modified.
  • An application or plugin update has caused an error.
  • Your SSL certificate has expired or is incorrectly configured.
  • Your website has exceeded its hosting resource limits (where applicable).
  • There is a temporary server or network issue.
  • Your website is experiencing high traffic or a software-related problem.

How to Troubleshoot Website Downtime

Step 1 - Check whether your internet connection is working by visiting other websites.

Step 2 - Log in to your SIRSTEVEHQ Client Area and verify that your hosting service is Active.

Step 3 - Check that your domain name has not expired.

Step 4 - Confirm that your domain is pointing to the correct nameservers or DNS records.

Step 5 - If you recently changed your DNS settings, allow up to 24 to 48 hours for DNS propagation.

Step 6 - Try accessing your website from another device, browser, or internet connection to determine whether the issue is local to your network.

Step 7 - Log in to your hosting control panel and verify that your website files are present and your web application is functioning correctly.

Step 8 - If you recently installed or updated your website, plugin, theme, or application, consider reverting the recent changes if possible.

Check for Service Notifications

If there is planned maintenance or an unexpected service interruption affecting our infrastructure, we will work to restore services as quickly as possible. Temporary interruptions may occur during maintenance or in the event of unforeseen technical issues.

If Your Domain Has Expired

An expired domain will no longer direct visitors to your website. Renew your domain as soon as possible through your Client Area. Once the renewal has been processed, your website should become accessible again after any necessary DNS updates have propagated.

If Your Hosting Service Has Expired or Been Suspended

If your hosting service has expired, renew the service through your Client Area. If your hosting account has been suspended, review any notifications sent to your registered email address or check your Client Area for the reason. If you need clarification, please contact our Support Team.

When to Contact Support

If you have completed the troubleshooting steps above and your website is still unavailable, please submit a Support Ticket.

To help us investigate more quickly, include the following information:

  • Your domain name.
  • A description of the issue.
  • The exact error message displayed, if any.
  • The date and time you first noticed the problem.
  • Screenshots of the error page, where possible.
  • Details of any recent changes you made to your website or DNS settings.

Providing complete information helps our Support Team diagnose and resolve the issue more efficiently.

Our Commitment

At SIRSTEVEHQ, we continuously monitor our hosting infrastructure and work to provide reliable hosting services. If the issue is related to our hosting platform, our technical team will investigate and take the necessary steps to restore service as quickly as possible. If the issue is related to your website, domain configuration, or application, we will do our best to guide you towards the appropriate solution.
