The SEO module gives you control over how your website pages are presented to search engines and when your content is shared on social media. You can manage page-level meta titles, meta descriptions, and URL slugs to help search engines and visitors understand your content.

Accessing SEO Settings

Per-page SEO (recommended)

In the Pages editor, click anywhere outside a section to deselect it. The right panel can then display the Page SEOsettings for the page you are currently editing.

This approach is useful when you are working on a specific page and want to optimize its search and sharing information alongside the page content.

SEO module

Go to Digital Presence → Website Builder → SEO to access an overview of the SEO settings for your website pages in one place.

The SEO overview can make it easier to identify pages that need optimization and maintain consistent metadata across your website.

Page SEO Fields

Meta Title

The meta title is the primary title associated with a page for search engines and can also be used when the page is shared on supported platforms.

It may appear in:

  • Browser tabs
  • Search engine results as the main clickable title
  • Social media link previews

Best practices:

  • Aim to keep it around 60 characters or fewer. Search engines may display longer titles differently depending on the device and search result.
  • Include your brand name where appropriate, typically toward the end, for example: Our Services | SIRSTEVEHQ
  • Include the primary topic or keyword for the page naturally.
  • Make each page title unique and descriptive.

A good meta title should tell both search engines and potential visitors what the page is about.

Meta Description

The meta description provides a short summary of the page.

It may appear:

  • Below the page title in search engine results
  • In social media or link previews where supported

Best practices:

  • Aim for approximately 160 characters or fewer, while remembering that search engines may display different lengths depending on the search and device.
  • Clearly explain what visitors can expect from the page.
  • Include the primary keyword naturally where it makes sense.
  • Write a description that encourages relevant visitors to click.
  • Avoid using the same description across multiple pages.

A meta description should accurately represent the page rather than simply repeating the title.

URL Slug

The URL slug is the readable path used for a page, such as:

  • /about
  • /services
  • /blog/how-to-build-a-website

Best practices:

  • Use lowercase characters.
  • Use hyphens to separate words.
  • Avoid unnecessary words, spaces, and complicated URL structures.
  • Keep slugs short, descriptive, and relevant to the page.
  • Use words that clearly communicate the page topic.

The homepage uses / as its root URL.

Changing a URL slug: Changing a slug changes the page's URL. If the previous URL has already been indexed by search engines or shared elsewhere, changing it can result in broken links or lost access to the previous address.

Before changing an established URL, update important internal and external links and consider whether a redirect is available or required for your website configuration.

Site-level SEO

The SEO module provides a centralized overview of your website's page SEO settings.

Depending on your current BrandPilot configuration, the overview may include information such as:

  • Page name
  • Meta title
  • Meta description
  • URL slug
  • Last edited information

Use the overview to review your pages and identify missing, duplicated, or outdated SEO information.

Select a page to open and update its SEO settings where supported.

Open Graph & Social Sharing

Your page metadata can also influence how your website appears when links are shared on social platforms and messaging services.

Depending on the page type and BrandPilot configuration, information such as the meta title, meta description, and featured image may be used to generate a social sharing preview.

For blog posts, using a relevant featured image and a clear title and description can make shared articles more recognizable and engaging.

Always review your page information before sharing important links publicly.

Sitemap

BrandPilot may generate an XML sitemap for your website to help search engines discover your published pages.

When available, the sitemap is typically accessible through:

/sitemap.xml

A sitemap can help search engines understand the structure of your website and discover pages that you want indexed.

Search engines still determine which pages to crawl and index. Having a sitemap does not guarantee that every page will appear in search results.

Robots.txt

Your website may also have a robots.txt file available at:

/robots.txt

This file provides instructions to web crawlers about which areas of a website they may access.

For most websites, the default configuration is suitable. If you need to control crawler access for a specific technical or SEO requirement, review the available BrandPilot options or contact SIRSTEVEHQ support for guidance.

SEO IS A LONG-TERM PROCESS

Good meta titles, descriptions, clear URLs, and well-structured content can improve how your website is presented in search results, but SEO is not an instant process.

Search visibility can depend on many factors, including the quality and relevance of your content, website structure, competition, backlinks, technical performance, and how search engines crawl and index your pages.

Keep your website content useful and up to date, optimize your important pages, and publish valuable articles through the Blog module consistently. Over time, this can help build a stronger foundation for organic search visibility.
